A very important award is given each year by a local student committee to their favorite film from the GREEN PLANET BLUES showcase. It’s a special symbolic award and this year, the young students from Sinaia elected “The Last Days of Shishmaref” by Jan Louter. “Is indeed a special award for me. It’s amazing that these very young people enjoyed and elected from all the films at GREEN PLANET BLUES, especially my film, which is not on heavy fast cut like the videos they are used to nowadays. My film is exactly the opposite of this kind and still they liked it… I am honored and I thank them very much. It’s a nice surprise!” said Jan Louter at the award winning ceremony on Saturday, 30 January, 2010.

THE IBERIAN LYNX (lynx pardinus) resembles the lynx living in the Carpathian Mountains. Its habitat shrinked constantly since the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the Iberian Lynx is on top of the list of endangered mamals in Europe. In the past, it populated the whole Iberian Peninsula, while at present the few lynxes left can be found only in Andalusia. The main cause for the disappearance of the lynx is the destruction of their natural habitat. Also, many have been killed in traps set for rabbits or were run over by cars, as their habitat was invaded by highways.

The Green Planet Blues cinema highlight prior to the events between the 28th and the 31th of January, is the Romanian tour of CosyMo’s Solar Cinema, the only European mobile cinema that doesn’t have a negative impact on the environment. The „solar van” will arrive in Romania from The Netherlands, and its owner, the filmmaker Maureen Prins will present her film production & screening unit in Romania, settling down for a couple of days in Sinaia, after Timisoara and Sibiu. In each of these cities, the public will have the chance to see the screenings for 30 minutes and understand how the unit works. Among the short films that will be shown along the way, the highlights are the Green Teen Spirit finalists. There will be 3 public choice awards, counting the votes of the public from each location, and the online votes on cinemagia.ro, our media partner. These public choice winners will have their videoclips screened on 2010 CosyMo’s Solar Cinema European tour.
All these until Green Planet Blues starts in Sinaia, on the 28th of January. From the 28th of January, Tarom will present, for the first time and exclusively for Romania, a spectacular landscape photo exhibition. Alex MacLean’s aerial photographs capture the evolution of the American landscape and the complex relationship between natural and constructed environment that contribute to climate change.
Green Planet Blues is also the meeting place for international environmental experts, during panels and round tables. Here you will witness a presentation of “Let’s Do It, Romania”, a highly brave project for Romania, with the master goal to collect, during one day, all the waste in Romania. A masterclass on the advantages of architecture based on natural resources will be held by the German architect Gernot Minke.

Sinaia. January 2009. Green Planet Blues. The first environmental film event in South-Eastern Europe. Top documentaries, high profile debates, photography exhibitions and a film contest for teenagers – GREEN TEEN SPIRIT. Alongside world-renowned experts, who were filled with enthusiasm at the thought that such an idea is also possible in Romania, five high-school students proved that they cared just as much. Only one of the students was to be awarded with the great prize – 1000 Euro. Choosing from the cinematic stories brought to life by them – displaying problems and proposing personal solutions, was a difficult task for the jury, a committee of film and environmental national specialists.Green Planet Blues is back in 2010, for its second edition and along with it, Aristoteles Workshop Association (AWA) brings back the Green Teen Spirit contest. Once again, we encourage teenagers to revive their environment, through film. Highschool students from all over Romania are invited to record and edit a short video of 1 to 3 minutes, approaching one environmental issue that worries them and proposing solutions for it.
